£50m+ Man Utd ace open to leaving Old Trafford as club hold transfer talks

A £50 million-plus Manchester United player is open to the idea of leaving Old Trafford, as a European club have held transfer talks over his signing, according to a new report.

Man Utd eyeing several new arrivals ahead of Amorim's first full season

Ruben Amorim will be pleased to see his United side turn their form around in recent weeks, but the Portuguese will still be urging the summer to arrive so he can make the necessary changes to this underperforming squad.

Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen look set to leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire, but there are many more expected to follow them out the exit door. High-profile departures may allow United to enter the market and bring in some high-performing players who fit into Amorim’s system. One player who appears to be a target for United is Barcelona winger Raphinha, as the Red Devils have already made a move to secure his services.

United are said to have tabled a £58 million offer to sign the Brazilian, who has 27 goals in 42 games in all competitions, as Amorim is keen for him to come to Old Trafford. The Premier League side are also in the market for a new centre-forward, and it’s been reported that United have made contact over a deal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys look set to return to the Championship, and United, along with Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Chelsea, are interested in signing Delap. But despite their relegation, Ipswich are looking to get £50 million for their striker, which could potentially be an issue for the Red Devils.

For the Red Devils to sign someone like Delap, they may have to let a current forward leave, and according to reports in Italy, relayed by Man Utd News, Napoli have placed Man United’s Rasmus Hojlund at the top of their transfer list ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report states that the Italian side, managed by Antonio Conte, want to sign a striker in the summer, and Hojlund is one of the names they have under consideration. It goes on to add that the Denmark international would “gladly” return to Italy after he played for Atalanta before joining United.

Man United signed Hojlund for £63 million back in 2023, and if he were to leave in the summer, they would look to get £51 million for the striker, as that would allow them to avoid a loss in their financial books. However, that price could be a problem for Napoli, but despite that, they have held “first exploratory talks”, as they consider Hojlund as someone who could compete with current striker Romelu Lukaku at the top end of the pitch.

It's safe to say that the 22-year-old has really struggled at Old Trafford this season, scoring just three goals in 24 Premier League games, his latest coming in the 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Hojlund has performed better in the Europa League in this campaign, but it may still not enough for Amorim to be fully convinced he is the forward to lead the team. He is under contract until 2028, but his sale could be considered by everyone at United, as it may allow them to bring in a striker Amorim believes will suit his team and system better.
