PSL transfer deadline day looming! Appollis, Lepasa & players who could be on the move before window slams shut

It’s less than 10 days until the PSL transfer window slams shut and clubs are scrambling for last-minute deals.

While most clubs are eager to get new faces through the door, some are desperately trying to get rid of some deadwood.

A number of PSL clubs have made changes to their technical teams the new coaches are busy building squads that fit their philosophy.

This means some players have been made aware that they will be getting limited game time and should look for pastures new.

As transfer deadline day approaches, GOAL looks at some of the players who could be on the move.

Oswin Appollis

Oswin Appollis, Polokwane City

The Polokwane City star is much sought after having produced solid displays for club and country of late.

His dazzling show for Bafana Bafana against South Sudan in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday would have only served to raise his stocks even higher.

Appollis is on the wish list of not only some of the best clubs in Mzansi but also on the continent. He was reported to be on the verge of a move to Algerian giants MC Alger but it appears to be on the brink of collapse.

This will be music to the ears of Chiefs, who have made it no secret that they admire the silky forward. New coach Nasreddine Nabi is desperate for more quality attacking options and they won’t come much better than Appollis.

Zakhele Lepasa

The Orlando Pirates striker was a man in hot form at the beginning of last season and he could not stop scoring.

He flew out of the blocks, netting nine goals in seven matches at some point. The fact that he only finished with ten goals in 23 matches, despite his blistering start, shows how badly his form deteriorated.

Lepasa then lost his spot in Jose Riveiro’s starting team and eventually dropped out of Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad.

The striker has now been linked with a move back to SuperSport, where he was once on loan. Gavin Hunt’s side are without a striker following the departure of on-loan Etiosa Ighodaro and the injured Bradley Grobler.

Tebogo Potsane

The winger was a shock signing by Amakhosi at the beginning of last season and it is safe to say it hasn’t worked out. Potsane joined the Glamour Boys from Royal AM, however, he was unable to hit the ground running.

He has been held back by unfortunate injury issues which have affected his form. The player could not form part of the squad that went to Turkey for pre-season, meaning Nabi was unable to have a proper look at him.

The Tunisian mentor seems happy to allow the player to leave, either on loan or permanently. Potsane is one of those who might be on their way out of the Naturena-based club.

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe

The Botswana international had a decent start to life in Naturena as he was a regular at the back alongside another new signing, Given Msimango.

That was, however, until injury struck and he was sidelined for a lengthy period. Following his return, Ditlhokwe didn’t seem like the same player as he struggled to regain his momentum.

The arrival of Nabi means a clean slate for every player at the club but Ditlhokwe looks to have fallen down the pecking order, according to reports.

Chiefs have signed the likes of Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley and Bradley Cross, all of whom can play at left-centre back, a position occupied by the former SuperSport United man.

There is also Edmilson Dove for Ditlhokwe to contend with and it is no surprise why there have been reports of a potential move away. This is certainly one player who could be on his way out.

Mduduzi Mdantsane

Since his move from Cape Town City last year, Mdantsane has struggled to produce the type of form that had attracted Amakhosi.

The 29-year-old returned to the club he once represented during his development days after penning a three-year contract.

However, he has not been able to repay the investment as a combination of injuries and ill-discipline contributed to his lack of impact.

The attacking midfielder is expected to find game-time hard to come by under Nabi given the options now available, including the signing of Gaston Sirino.

With two years remaining on his contract, Mdantsane could be shipped off on loan but his injury has complicated matters.
