David Moyes had his first press conference back at Everton on Monday afternoon.

The Friedkin Group sacked Sean Dyche last week and opted to bring Moyes back to Goodison Park on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The Scotsman, who left West Ham United in the summer, will take charge of his first game on Wednesday, as Everton play host to Aston Villa.

The Toffees are in desperate need of three points as they languish just one point above the relegation zone.

That said, Moyes has now issued an honest response when asked about the club’s transfer plans this winter.

David Moyes hopeful of January additions

Speaking in Monday’s press conference, Moyes was suited and booted for his return as Finch Farm welcomed back their former boss.

He was quickly asked about the transfer plans this month and admitted that he hopes to spend a bit of money whilst being mindful of the PSR issues.

“The stadium looks elite and we need some elite players,” Moyes said.

“Overall I hope we can all get together and spend a bit of money, but we still have a bit to do to clear everything and we need to be mindful of that as well.”

The 61-year-old added that he hopes to work collaboratively with sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who is currently in talks to bring Ernest Nuamah to Everton.

Moyes admits there’s still work to do PSR wise

The Everton boss said the club still have work to do to solve their financial issues but they ‘are close to being over them.’

Moyes noted that the Friedkin’s have big ambitions to get Everton back to their past glories and sounded hopeful of spending more money on elite players once they’re settled at the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

So, there’s certainly plenty of reasons to be optimistic for supporters, though, it could be a little bumpy for the next six months.

Premier League safety is paramount.
