Inter Miami defeated Columbus Crew to become the only team left unbeaten in the MLS this year, but it is still Vancouver who held onto top spot after this week’s action.

Brandon Vazquez had the opportunity to put Austin in front from the spot in the second half against LA Galaxy, but his kick was saved before the American then went and put the home side ahead with ten minutes left in the tie when he tapped home by John McCarthy. Brendan Hines-Ike was sent off in stoppage time for arguing but that didn’t stop the Galaxy being condemned to the bottom of the table.

Only one goal separated Columbus Crew and Inter Miami, and it was scored by Benjamin Cremaschi as his diving header met Marcelo Weigandt’s cross. The win sees Inter Miami up to fourth in the overall table above their opponents. Goals from Liel Abada, Patrick Agyemang and Andrew Privett secured Charlotte a 3-0 victory over San Diego after a dominant performance.

There was another 3-0 home victory this weekend which went to the Seattle Sounders against Nashville. Their three goals came in 15 minutes with first Jesus Ferreira’s shot being flicked in by Daniel Musovski before strikes from Pedro de la Vega and Paul Rothrock sent the home side on their way.

DC United’s goalkeeper Luis Barraza’s goal kick managed to find Joao Peglow for the opener away at New York Red Bulls as the Brazilian managed to get in behind and smash the ball into the back of the net. Peglow would get his second with a brilliant acrobatic finish from inside the six-yard box by Carlos Coronel. Former Stoke City striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moring got a goal back in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the hosts.

New England Revolution got a goal either side of the half versus New England Revolution which earnt them a 2-0 victory. Leonardo Campana deflected effort broke the deadline and Ignatius Ganago got the second when he stabbed home Carles Gil’s cross. Despite a second half red card for Orlando City’s Rafael Santos they held on for a point away at CF Montreal, which was only a third of the season for the Canadian side.

Quinn Sullivan put Philadelphia Union ahead against Atlanta United with an impressive volley after a 30 second spell of extremely scrappy football. Mikael Uhre played in Danley Jacques for the second just after the break and despite a poor finish some poor goalkeeping from Brad Guzan let the ball in. There was then a red card for the home side with a second yellow for Jovan Lukic but that didn’t stop them from getting a third from Tai Baribo.

There was late drama between Houston Dynamo and the Colorado Rapids in their Saturday night fixture in Texas. The only goal in the first half saw Houston go ahead as Sebastian Kowalczyk set up Amine Bassi and he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. A Dorde Mihailovic penalty followed by a blistering run and finish from Rafael Navarro saw the away side ahead going into the closing stages. With six minutes of stoppage time played Ondrej Lingr’s header managed to creep into the far corner for the leveller.

Two more goalless draws to report on in this weekend’s action with Minnesota United and Dallas sharing the spoils which sees them move onto 16 and 12 points respectively. St. Louis had thought they’d gone ahead through Marcel Hartel in the 27th minute against Vancouver but that goal was cancelled by VAR with the game eventually ending even.

The goals all arrived in the later kick-offs on Saturday with five goals between Chicago and Cincinnati. Evander put the away side ahead when Evander’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected up and over Chris Brady. Hugo Cuypers levelled the match as he slotted into the net after latching onto a through ball by Jonathan Bamba, but it was the away side who led at the break as Kevin Denkey slotted into the bottom right. Evander then made that lead two goals and despite a late penalty from Brian Gutierrez, Cincinnati secured all three points.

Toronto hit the front early against Real Salt Lake as Theo Corbeanu latched onto a mistake by the RSL defence and his shot along the ground went by Rafael Cabral. The home side were reduced to ten when Diego Luna was sent off by VAR and that ultimately made the task too difficult.

Felipe Mora kickstarted a match which involved six goals and late drama as he converted his penalty for the home side as Portland and LAFC met. Their lead was extended to two as Santiago Moreno was set up by Antony Alves and the Colombian cut onto his left and scored. Olivier Giroud got his first MLS goal with a free kick just before the break and then David Morales tapped home in the 64th minute to turn the game around and make it 2-2. Portland instantly responded through a Felipe Mora header, and it then took until the 90th minute for LAFC to respond and they did it through a Denis Bouanaga penalty.

If six goals isn’t enough for you, then the eight in San Jose may suffice as the Earthquakes played Sporting Kansas. The away side romped into a 3-0 lead with three goals in six minutes as Logan Ndenbe, Daniel Salloi and Manu Garcia all netted. By the break the game was back in the balance as a Josef Matinez dink and a Cristian Aranjo header meant it was 3-2 to SKC. Salloi got his second of the game as he tapped home Erik Thommy’s low ball into the box and then Thommy got a goal of his own with five minutes left. There was a late consolation from Arango in a match which ended 5-3 to Sporting Kansas,
