Man City plan hatched for £70m Julian Alvarez transfer includes Chelsea flop

Former Chelsea forward Joao Felix has reportedly been offered to Manchester City as part of a deal for Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez has been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer with the striker seen as backup to first-choice option Erling Haaland. The Argentine made 54 appearances across all competitions last season but Haaland started the biggest games for Pep Guardiola's team.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have been the most strongly linked with Alvarez this summer. And the Daily Mail are claiming that Atletico are offering Felix plus cash as part of a potential deal.

City are said to value Alvarez at £75million plus a further £10m in performances-based add-ons. The 24-year-old has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists across all competitions since his City debut in August 2022.

Felix meanwhile endured a torrid time in his last spell in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese was sent off on his Chelsea debut against Fulham in Janaury 2023 while on loan from Atletico before scoring just four goals in 20 games for the Blues.

Alvarez told reporters earlier this week that he is still focused on the summer Olympics but admitted that a further update could emerge after the Games in Paris.

"There is a lot of talk," he said when asked about his City future. "I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. We will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide."

He added: "At Manchester City, I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes. Maybe it's annoying to be out in big games; players always want to help on the pitch. But my season was good, so I'm very happy."

Those comments expanded on what the player said before the Copa America when addressing the speculation about his future. "These are things that are said [transfer rumours]," Alvarez acknowledged to ESPN, "but I am calm; I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens."

It is going to be an interesting summer at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal look to make changes and give Mikel Arteta the squad to overhaul Manchester City and win the Premier League title.
