A number of players have thrived after being sold by Tottenham.
The likes of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric became European superstars at Real Madrid after departing N17 – while talents such as Kyle Walker have also gone on to lift several trophies at Manchester City.
Now – however – there is another player Tottenham sold who is taking a slightly different path towards a successful career…
Back in July, Tottenham agreed to sell Troy Parrott to AZ Alkmaar for a sum of just £6.7m – after impressing Dutch clubs during his loan spell at Excelsior.
It was a decision which left many in N17 feeling slightly torn, as the 22-year-old was often tipped to achieve special things at Spurs.
In fact, it was even said that some people at Tottenham felt Parrott was the best finisher at the club – even before Harry Kane left to join Bayern Munich in 2023.
Now, that theory has been significantly supported, as the Republic of Ireland international impressively netted four goals for AZ Alkmaar on Saturday to secure a 9-1 win over Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.
To do this in any game is quite the achievement, although for the AZ Alkmaar No.9 to hit four goals in a top-flight game in a major European league makes it all the more impressive.
Spurs did not include a buyback clause in the agreement to sell Parrott to AZ Alkmaar, although a different clause was inserted to ensure Tottenham benefit if he becomes a superstar.
A story from Football London confirms that Spurs inserted a 20% sell-on clause into the agreement back in July, which means Tottenham will receive a fifth of the transfer fee in future, if the man from Dublin were to secure a lucrative move away.
Hopefully, that does turn out to be the case, as Parrott – who desperately wanted to make it at Spurs – is undoubtedly a top prospect, who simply struggled to assert himself in N17 as Tottenham churned their way through several different managers in quick succession, such as Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou.
