Man Utd can agree perfect £42m swap deal but Chelsea could foil their plans

Manchester United may have uncovered the perfect swap deal to kill two birds with one stone this summer. Ruben Amorim’s side are in desperate need of reinforcements at the end of the season, with additions being eyed at both ends of the pitch. A goalkeeper to put pressure on Andre Onana is being eyed, as well as a marquee No. 9 – with Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike among those being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils also appear to be eyeing another midfielder as well, amid reports that several players in that department could leave the club. According to Sky Sports Germany, Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha is admired, though a fee of £42million will be required to sign the 24-year-old.

No concrete negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs, with the Red Devils sceptical about opening talks given that they already have a plethora of players in that role. However, a move is not being ruled out.

With Casemiro and Christian Eriksen both expected to depart and Kobbie Mainoo also potentially departing, Amorim could find himself short of another midfielder.

But it is no secret that funds are running low at the Theatre of Dreams, which could force United to look for alternative ways to bring down Nmecha’s asking price. Allowing Jadon Sancho to return to Dortmund for the third time could certainly be viewed as a plausible option given that he has thrived at the club previously.

The Bundesliga outfit looked to sign Sancho last summer after a successful loan stint, but the England international ultimately headed to Chelsea – who will have a key role to play in a potential swap deal for Nmecha.

Sancho joined the Blues on a loan-to-buy deal, but it has since emerged that Chelsea have the option to pay a fee to avoid permanently acquiring the services of the winger. With nine games left of the season, it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old can prove his worth at Stamford Bridge or if he is forced to make his way back to Old Trafford.

A return to the Red Devils could be beneficial for all parties though, especially if Dortmund would be interested in signing the winger again – amid reports that they could sell Jamie Gittens this summer.
