Former Arsenal transfer chief 'threatened with dismissal' as relationship breaks down at new club

The former Arsenal transfer guru is now at Borussia Dortmund but things are not going well with new boss Nuri Sahin

Former Arsenal transfer Chief Sven Mislintat has been 'threatened with dismissal' after just three months at Borussia Dortmund, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Taking to X on Sunday evening, Romano reported that “the situation is getting tense at the club,” with German outlet BILD , reporting “the relationship with head coach Nuri Sahin is now almost broken.”

Sahin - who played for Liverpool - became Dortmund boss after Edin Terzic departed following the club's defeat in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley last season. Sahin boasts previous managerial experience at Turkish side Antalyaspor where he was boss for two years.

Mislintat is in his second spell in Dortmund; he started as an analyst in 2006 before becoming chief scout at the club in 2006. He was previously credited with the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - among others who made an impact in a yellow and black shirt.

He joined Arsenal in 2017 and remained at the club until 2019. Later that year he returned to Germany when he joined Stuttgart as Sporting Director before heading to Ajax for a brief spell in Amsterdam.

While at the Emirates Stadium, he was responsible for the transfers of Pierre -Emerick ubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lucas Torreira, Sokratis Papastathopolous, and Stephen Lichtsteiner - many of whom were unsuccessful.

In 2021, he told The Athletic about his time in north London, he said: “I don’t feel ashamed of any of those transfers, on the contrary, I will always defend these guys. Not because they were my players but because they were Arsenal players and capable ones.

"They turned up. The team went unbeaten in 22 games in all competitions, made it to the Europa League final, and finished fifth with 70 points. You can say that’s not good enough. But many teams would love to finish fifth now. I felt that we were on the right track and I would have enjoyed the opportunity to develop further at Arsenal.”
