The Amakhosi custodian has recovered from injury but is not keen on being left out of the starting line-up for long.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Brandon Petersen has been out of action for a significant period due to a finger injury that required surgery.
However, the custodian has now fully recovered and is ready for action at Kaizer Chiefs.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Petersen started the 2023/24 season as Kaizer Chiefs' first-choice goalkeeper but his costly mistakes saw him get replaced by Fiacre Ntwari.
Amakhosi decided against extending Itumeleng Khune's contract at the club, and Fiacre Ntwari was signed from TS Galaxy to take the number one spot.
Nevertheless, Petersen is convinced he can successfully challenge the Rwanda international in his bid to reclaim the starting berth.
WHAT PETERSEN SAID
"Competition is always good for me. I love competition because if there's no competition, you tend to relax," the 30-year-old told the media.
"Obviously, I have been out with injury but I am back to full fitness now and looking forward to start competing for the No.1 spot.
"Fiacre has been doing well and for me, whoever plays has my backing 100% because when I also play, I expect that. I am looking forward to the season to fight for the No.1 spot and when I get the opportunity to play, I will grab it with both hands and just contribute."
WHAT NEXT?
Bvuma is another goalkeeper who is yearning to get another chance in goal meaning Ntwari will be under pressure to deliver consistently.
The competition will benefit coach Nasreddine Nabi who is desperate to help Kaizer Chiefs get back to the top after nine seasons without silverware.
