Richarlison night goes from bad to worse as fuming Tottenham man held back after Liverpool antics

A look at some of the moments missed from Liverpool's 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool secured their passage to a second successive Carabao Cup final with a 4-0 drubbing of Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night. Goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk set up a Wembley showpiece with Newcastle United on March 16.

The Reds now turn their attention to another cup campaign when they are entertained by Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Cup and with Everton to come in the Merseyside derby next week, changes are expected from Arne Slot ahead of the last meeting between the two at Goodison Park.

But you knew all of that, of course. What you might have missed, however, were a series of intriguing subplots that played out on the night at Anfield. Here is the best of our 'moments missed'.

Jones stunning volley draws gasps

Liverpool were still going through their pre-match warm-ups when the Kop was coaxed into its first cheer of the evening. As the players went through their routines in front of the fans gathering on the terraces around 30 minutes before kick-off, it was Curtis Jones who whet the appetite for what was in store for fans on the night.

Undergoing their crossing and shooting drills against stand-in goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, Jones brought the Kop to their feet with an extraordinary back-heel volley that was worth the admission alone, even if it was only the warm-up.

The midfielder pulled off a stunning effort that drew audible gasps before it was half celebrated like an actual goal, such was the quality of the spinning-heel strike. A goal of the month season contender, had it been registered in a game itself. Take a bow, Curtis.

Won it in Madrid

It didn't take Sherlock Holmes to deduce why Liverpool fans were singing about winning the Champions League six years ago during their second-half onslaught on the Tottenham goal.

As the Reds surged towards a place in the League Cup final, supporters across the stadium could be heard about how they 'won it in Madrid' with the inference being that it came against Spurs themselves crystal clear. Talk about kicking them when they are down.

Richarlison the pantomime villain

Having left Richarlison reeling with an early reducer at Anfield, Virgil van Dijk was setting the tone early.

The Spurs striker didn't exactly need much encouragement to exaggerate the contact but Reds supporters, acutely aware of his former Everton allegiances, were quick to remind the Brazilian of that fact.

Not content with having sent his rival crashing to the deck, however, Van Dijk added insult to what was likely a half-feigned injury by taking his hand away after initially holding it out to help Richarlison up. It was a ploy straight from the schoolyard playbook.

The former Everton forward took exception to it, telling the Reds captain what he thought of him in no uncertain terms before having to be held back by Yves Bissouma. The ECHO's pages are much too family friendly to repeat the phrase used, but it started with an F and ended with "off".

"You know what you did," he also claimed of Van Dijk and Richarlison's night went from bad to worse when he was eventually forced off with a muscle injury in the first half, much to the delight of the crowing home fans. The performance of an elite pantomime villain was seemingly complete.
