Chelsea can sign their new Didier Drogba this summer. There have been links with the Blues and Victor Osimhen, not just this summer, but in previous transfer windows too.

The problem has always been that Osimhen will cost a fortune to sign. The Nigerian frontman is understood to have a £110.8million release clause at Napoli - something the Italian giants are unwilling to budge on.

But there is hope this summer that a deal could finally get done. That is because former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is now in charge in Naples and his plan is to bring Romelu Lukaku to the club.

According to Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Conte has privately made it clear to Napoli that Lukaku is his first-choice target. That gives Chelsea something of an advantage in the race to sign Osimhen, ahead of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain who have also registered an interest, and Arsenal who have also been linked.

Osimhen has also been left out of all of Napoli's pre-season friendlies so far - a clear indication of Conte's plans moving forward without him.

Chelsea want to offload Lukaku and Napoli are willing to let Osimhen leave. Conte said on Osimhen: "I know what the situation is regarding Osimhen. I know that there are agreements, that it is a situation different from all the others. I can only assist."

That agreement Conte talks of is that Napoli will not stand in Osimhen's way this summer, providing a club stumps up the funds to sign him. And if Chelsea get the £30million or so they want for Lukaku, they could end up parting with £80million for Osimhen.

Former Chelsea player William Gallas believes it is a no-brainer deal. Speaking to Genting Casino he said: "In a similar way to Didier Drogba, Victor Osimhen can bring Chelsea to the next level.

"Looking at what he has done with Napoli and leading them to the title, he could do that with Chelsea. Chelsea need a striker and I don’t know what they are waiting for."
