Revolution find scoring touch, shut out New York City FC

Leo Campana and Ignatius Ganago scored their first goals of the season in the New England Revolution's 2-0 win over visiting New York City FC on Saturday.

The Revolution (3-4-1, 10 points) are on a two-match winning streak, and are 3-1-0 in their last four outings.

Aljaz Ivacic made two saves for the goalkeeper's third shutout in eight starts this season.

Carles Gil received an assist on Ganago's tally, giving Gil another prominent spot in New England's record books. Gil is now the Revolution's all-time regular-season assists leader with 74 career helpers.

New York City (3-4-2, 11 points) was held scoreless for the third time in nine matches this season.

Star striker Alonso Martinez had five goals in his first seven matches, but he was largely held in check on Saturday. Martinez had one of NYCFC's two shots on target, and he had a dangerous chance sail wide in the 16th minute.

The Revs had only four goals their first seven matches, but the attack looked far more dangerous with Campana now fully recovered from a hamstring injury. New England had 13 shots in the match and held a 7-2 edge over New York City FC in shots on target.

Five of those on-target shots came in the first half, and NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese had to be sharp to keep the match from getting out of hand early. The Revolution's pressure finally broke through on their final shot before halftime, as Campana and Ganago lined up on a nice give-and-go play.

In the 43rd minute, Campana passed to Ganago in the box, and Ganago sent the ball right back to his teammate. Campana's left-footed shot took a deflection into New York's net, giving the forward his first goal since being acquired by the Revs from Inter Miami in the offseason.

Ganago was also an offseason acquisition for the Revolution, and he followed up his first MLS assist with his first MLS goal in the 48th minute. Gil sent a well-placed cross to the front of the net, and Ganago got the sliding touch for the finish.
