Savinho aims for speedy Man City debut and dream Wembley appearance

Manchester City forward Savinho spoke at his official unveiling about his targets for the season ahead

Savinho is hoping to play for Manchester City at Wembley next week as he arrives at his new club to begin pre-season.

The Brazilian winger is City's only signing of the summer window so far, arriving for an initial £21m from fellow City Football Group club Troyes in a deal that could reach £33.6m. Having competed with his national team at the Copa America as they reached the quarter-finals, the 22-year-old was excused from City's pre-season tour in order to rest up.

He will return to training in Manchester on Monday along with most of the City players who were at the Euros, linking back up with Pep Guardiola and the group who travelled to the United States. By the end of the week, Savinho aims to have done enough to have secured a place in the squad to take on Manchester United in the Community Shield.

"I hope to play of course, all players need to be wanting, hoping, and ready to play," he said at his official unveiling. "Monday will be one week from the Community Shield so I need to work hard to have the opportunity to play against Manchester United.

"I'm really happy and honoured and I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to training. I thank God for the opportunity to have brought me here. I'm grateful to everyone at Manchester City for signing me and putting my trust and faith in me and being a part of this huge club.

"I'm really looking forward to this opportunity and I can't wait to start training and make my debut for the team."
