Tottenham defender Alfie Dorrington is set to join Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on loan for the remainder of the season, football.london understands. The academy ace has only made one appearance for Ange Postecoglou's Spurs this season, with that coming in December as a late substitute in the 5-0 win over Southampton.

Dorrington has been a regular in the matchday squad in recent weeks at a time when Tottenham have had to do without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies through injury. However, he hasn't been able to add to his solitary appearance for the club despite the lack of numbers at Postecoglou's disposal right now.

Speaking about Dorrington in his pre-match press conference to preview Sunday's FA Cup tie at Tamworth, the Spurs boss did indicate that the club were looking at securing a loan deal for the 19-year-old.

"Alfie is training with us and he has been around the first-team squad and part of the first-team squad," said Postecoglou. "He had a pretty significant injury which kept him out of football for quite a while. But he is part of the squad and he probably needs to get some game time so we will look for a loan for him."

The regular game time Dorrington requires will hopefully come at Aberdeen in the second half of the season. The Dons started the 2024/25 campaign in outstanding form but have since dropped down to fourth in the table after a run of 11 league games without a win.

Regarded very highly at Tottenham, Dorrington's football has been limited in recent months after undergoing surgery on his hamstring last May. A move to Aberdeen does present the centre-back with the chance to get his first real taste of senior football over a sustained period of games, which in turn will help aid his development ahead of his return to north London in the summer.

Dorrington will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Tottenham Under-21 teammates Jamie Donley, Josh Keeley and George Abbott who have all thrived out on loan this season. Donley and Keeley are currently playing a key part in Leyton Orient's rise up the League One table, with Abbott really making his mark in League Two as Notts County push for promotion.
