Charlie Cresswell is really impressing of late over in France after leaving Leeds United in the summer to join Ligue 1 side Toulouse, and he has posted a hilarious picture on Instagram.
Rewind 18 months, England U21 defender Cresswell had just returned to Elland Road after a loan away at Millwall. The centre-back had scored five goals in 30 games for the London club, impressing at The Den.
It was expected he would play a key role following relegation but the signing of Joe Rodon saw Cresswell play just seven times during 2023-24. Daniel Farke even questioned Cresswell publicly over his attitude.
It saw Cresswell choose to leave Leeds in the summer, making the surprise move to join French outfit Toulouse for a fee of £3.8m. Since his move to France, Cresswell has been excellent for the Ligue 1 club.
The 22-year-old started the season at Toulouse on the right of a back three, and despite a solid start it saw him struggle against Marseille and Mason Greenwood. A spell out of the side followed for Cresswell.
But he has returned to the starting line-up in the middle of the back three and it is suiting Cresswell down to a tee. Started and finished the last six games, helping Toulouse win four, keeping four clean sheets.
With good form comes good morale and after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Auxerre with Cresswell impressing once again, he posted on Instagram including a funny picture of himself, the third image of three (below).
His caption read: “Starting the month strong”.

Cresswell is finally showing his potential, and will surely have Farke regretting the decision to let him go in the summer. Especially, with Leeds hardly boasting lots of cover. James Debayo got his debut recently.
Indeed, Cresswell says he lost his confidence under Farke and needed to regain it in order to prove what he can do – which he is doing at Toulouse. Leeds duo Joe Gelhardt and Sam Byram reacted to his post.
As did Gray brothers Archie and Harry and Sheffield United’s summer signing Jamie Shackleton. Premier League clubs are renowned for shopping for defenders in Ligue 1, Everton recently signing Jake O’Brien.
Certainly, his form in the last six games is going to attract suitors if he keeps it up, and there is every chance that Cresswell could find himself the subject of a Premier League move in the next season or two.
