Chelsea winger Noni Madueke says fans should get excited about Tyrique George’s potential.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Madueke was asked about which youngster in the Blues’ academy has caught the eye and he replied:
“Tyrique’s talent is through the roof, man. He’s got everything to be a fantastic wing player. He can score with both feet, he’s quick, skilful, can go both ways, he’s a great player. He had a good debut in the Conference League. He’s one to look out for.”
As Madueke mentions, George was given his senior debut by head coach Enzo Maresca last month. The 18-year-old played the last 30 minutes of the Conference League playoff round second leg against Servette.
The winger was born in London, but he is of Nigerian descent, so he is eligible to play for both the Three Lions and the Super Eagles.
George came through Chelsea’s academy, catching the eye at Under 18 level, scoring 14 goals and contributing 10 assists in just 39 appearances over the past three seasons.
He did make several appearances for the Under 21s last campaign before becoming a permanent part of the setup this summer. In his first 3 matches in Premier League 2, he has provided 2 assists.
As mentioned, George made his first appearance at senior level in Switzerland at the end of August.
The teenager is one of six players named on the ‘B List’ for the league phase of the Conference League, along with Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, Kiano Dyer, Harrison McMahon and Max Merrick.
It means George will be eligible to play in the six European fixtures against Gent, Panathinaikos, Noah, Heidenheim, Astana and Shamrock Rovers between October and December.
