The FSU baseball program has made another addition to its 2028 recruiting class, securing a commitment from Devin Raines on Sunday. The first baseman and outfielder announced the news on social media.
Raines is from Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and attends Cardinal Mooney High School. He officially visited the Seminoles on Sept. 8 and picked them over the Miami Hurricanes, whom he also officially visited.
"I am extremely excited and blessed to announce my commitment to Florida State University," he wrote. "A huge thank you to my family for the love and support through this journey, wouldn't be here without them. A special thank you to Coach Jarrett and the entire coaching staff. Go Noles🍢"
Raines comes from a baseball family. He is the grandson of MLB Hall of Famer Tim Raines Sr. and the son of Tim Raines Jr., who played for the Baltimore Orioles for three seasons. Unlike his dad and grandfather, he is not a switch hitter, but he does bat from the left side.
Raines played just five varsity games as a sophomore at Cardinal Mooney High School, but he showed what he can do. The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder hit .417 (5-for-12) with one double, two walks, five RBI, and three runs scored. He played 19 games on junior varsity, hitting .353 with one double, two triples, 14 RBI, and 21 runs scored.
He is FSU's sixth commitment in the 2028 recruiting cycle and second position player, joining infielder Alex Rodriguez. They also have commitments from left-handed pitchers Brody Radwick, Sid Goecke, and Nate Hazard, and two-way player Garrett Harper. All six players are from Florida.
