‘(Marshawn) Lloyd and a 3rd-Round Pick,’ ‘So Reckless,’ ‘Wouldn’t Be Surprising’ — Packers Reporter, Fans React as Rumors Link GB With $44M All-Pro

Some trade rumors keep coming back, and the one linking the Green Bay Packers to Jonathan Taylor just took another lap.

ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter reported Sunday, Oct. 25, that the Packers are a possible landing spot for the Indianapolis Colts’ star running back. “Locked On Packers” host Peter Bukowski chose to connect that report to another Colts name already tied to Green Bay.

However, the same report raised the big question of whether Indianapolis is even willing to sell, and a couple of fans weren’t sold on Green Bay buying, either.

Peter Bukowski Connects the Dots Between Two Colts Stars

The report came in a rundown of the Colts’ deadline options after Indianapolis fired general manager Chris Ballard. It listed the Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos as “among the teams that have, or are expected, to ponder the possibility of a trade for the star running back.”

The same report also listed DeForest Buckner among the Colts drawing interest around the league. The 32-year-old defensive tackle is on an expiring contract and set to hit free agency in 2027. Tyler Brooke had already reported that the Packers called on him.

This weekend, Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson also tapped the Packers as dark-horse contenders for a trade for Taylor.

Bukowski decided to put the two together a few hours after ESPN’s story dropped. “The Packers have shown interest in Jonathan Taylor before,” he wrote, before delivering his verdict: “It wouldn’t be surprising at all if they’re gauging cost on more than one guy.”

Green Bay has kicked these tires before, too. ESPN reported that Green Bay looked into a deal for the former Wisconsin standout back in August 2023, with Indianapolis asking for wide receiver Christian Watson and more.

The Colts may not be in a rush to move him now. Sources informed of the team’s thinking told ESPN that owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon views Taylor as “a key part of the organization and a likely mainstay in their rebuild,” and that prying him loose would likely take premium draft pick compensation.

Taylor’s 587 rushing yards through Week 7 rank fifth in the NFL, and his eight rushing touchdowns are tied for first. The 27-year-old is due $16 million next season and nearly $18 million in 2028 on the $44 million extension he signed just before the season.

Trade Proposal Arrives From Fans Alongside Two Arguments for Staying Put

One fan skipped the hand-wringing and went straight to haggling: “Lloyd & a 3rd round pick.”

Another fan took the opposite tack: “The Packers are not going to trade for a 28-year-old RB when they already have a 28-year-old RB.” That post landed a few hours before Josh Jacobs, who missed the season’s first six games, made his 2026 debut against the Detroit Lions.

Another fan decided to argue against a deal on roster grounds, opening with “It’s a fun hypothetical but this would be so reckless for Green Bay.” The same fan went on to argue that “the run game has bigger issues than simply just adding a RB” and that “the focus needs to be on collecting draft capital.”

On Sunday, Green Bay ran 19 times for 60 yards in a 20-17 loss that ended on Jake Bates’ 22-yard field goal as time expired. Jacobs carried 11 times for 36 yards and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass, while Lloyd added 20 yards on six carries.

The Packers, now 4-3 and fourth in the NFC North, host the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, Oct. 29.

According to ESPN, sources informed of the Colts’ thinking believed the plan was to try to win at Minnesota, at the Jacksonville Jaguars, and against the Dallas Cowboys before the Nov. 10 deadline. The first of those games ended in a 16-10 loss to the Vikings that dropped them to 2-5.

The same report said that if that stretch doesn’t go their way, new chief of personnel Ed Dodds will work with Irsay-Gordon and the rest of the Colts brass to trade away assets and build toward the future.

Indianapolis visits Jacksonville on Nov. 1 and hosts Dallas on Nov. 8, with just two Sundays left before the deadline arrives.
