Carlisle United captain Morgan Feeney believes the team is moving on the right track as their recent upturn continued.
Feeney was on the scoresheet as Carlisle came from behind to beat Solihull Moors and record a fifth successive unbeaten game in league and cup.
The Blues are still only 11th in the National League, but the play-off spots are now within three points.
"We knew we were going to get better and better and we're still not where we want to be," the 27-year-old defender told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"We let ourselves down over a period in the early part of the season, whether that be we played really well and didn't win or we played poorly and deserved to lose."
A five-game winless streak culminated in a humiliating 5-2 loss at home to Woking last month but Rob Elliot's side have produced a battling response.
The victory in the Midlands was their first win having come from behind since March and for Feeney, honest conversations among the squad have helped to improve things.
"We've some real good talks in the dressing room," he added. "We're still a young group and we need to start showing a bit more character.
"But the last four or five games, we've been excellent. With injured lads returning and once we get a full-strength team, I think we're going to be in a really good place."
