Zavier Scott sounds off on being promoted to Bears active roster

Chicago Bears running back Zavier Scott has been trying to make it in the NFL since going undrafted in 2023. Now, he's finally getting the opportunity.

Scott spent most of last season with the Minnesota Vikings, playing in 16 games and scored a touchdown in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. Before that, he spent time on their practice squad in 2024 and with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad in 2023.

As part of roster cuts, Minnesota cut Scott and the Bears signed him to their practice squad the next day. When running back Kyle Monangai went down with turf toe and a finger injury, Chicago elevated Scott to the active roster for three games in his absence. Now, Scott has been signed to the active roster after an impressive performance and is looking to continue making an impact.

"I think it’s just the consistency of putting the work in every day, and I know it doesn’t stop now," Scott said. "It’s the same as before. There’s an amazing group of guys around me that have poured into me since Day 1, and I’m just very grateful to have this opportunity."

Scott has not recorded an offensive snap this season, but he did get some action on special teams against the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots. He recorded at least one tackle in all three games. If Monangai is able to come back for Chicago’s Week 9 game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, we'll see how that affects Scott's position on the roster. But given he's already been elevated three times to the active roster on game day, the only way he can play is if he's on the active roster.

"What I’ve learned over the years is that it’s a matter of just going back and doing the work," Scott said. "There’s no secret to it. There’s no magic wand to wave. It’s doing the work."
