‘Off One Game Is Crazy,’ ‘Gotta Put the Mic Down’ – Jeff Teague’s Brutal Heat Take Sparks Outrage Among NBA Fans Following Blowout Loss

The Miami Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason. His first regular-season game with the team ended in a 131-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night at Kaseya Center.

One game in, the question hanging over the Heat is how much patience the new-look roster has earned. Former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague, who once played alongside Antetokounmpo, is the latest to weigh in. He gave a blunt verdict on the team in a postgame segment on the “Club 520 Podcast,” which fans were quick to dismiss.

Antetokounmpo’s own numbers in the debut were big. He scored 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting, made 9 of 14 free throws and added six rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes. It did not keep the game close.

The Timberwolves led 69-59 at halftime and pushed the lead to as many as 30. They made 21 of 50 3-pointers to the Heat’s 8 of 33, outrebounded the Heat 52-34 and got 45 points and 10 rebounds from Anthony Edwards.

After the game, Teague made his position clear. “I’m done with the Heat, man… I didn’t know they were gonna be playing Milwaukee basketball still. I didn’t know they’d take the Milwaukee Bucks and put them in Miami. He’s [Giannis Antetokounmpo] still doing the same [expletive]. I’m good, man.”

Teague’s remarks drew replies from fans the same night. “He’ll be back on the bandwagon in a couple months,” one fan wrote.

That prediction pointed back to where Teague stood over the summer. He had been a big supporter of the Antetokounmpo move all offseason and expected a strong 2026-27 season from the Heat, Heavy reported.

In July, after LeBron James landed with the Philadelphia 76ers, Teague said, “I got Miami Heat better than Philly.” When a co-host pushed back, he stood by the pick.

He also pointed to defense as the Heat’s edge: “Everybody on that team can guard. We lock up. And we going to be trapping ball screens. We going to do all type of wild [expletive] that y’all ain’t never even seen… [The Heat] got an easier team to plug and play.”

Another fan wrote on X, “Stay on that side. [expletive] switch up after 1 game still 81 more games to go.”

Another fan took aim at the messengers rather than the team: “Lmao we still listening to these dudes?”

The timing of the verdict drew pushback, too. “Off one game is crazy,” another fan replied.

Another fan just directly urged the former champion to put it down. They wrote, “Teague gotta put the mic down.”

Not every reply went against Teague. “He’s right. This just feels like a Bucks 2.0,” another fan wrote.

That reply echoed Teague’s comparison to Antetokounmpo’s old team, which Heavy wrote he left “after multiple seasons of big personal performances but struggling as a team.” Against the Timberwolves, Bam Adebayo was the Heat’s next-best scorer with 15 points, followed by Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell with 11 each.

The Heat will not have to wait long to play again. They host the Detroit Pistons tonight at 8 p.m. ET at Kaseya Center, then visit the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday to finish a stretch of three games in four days.
