Bangladesh has been hosting the West Indies in a two-match Test series. This is a crucial series for both sides given the fact that it falls under the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 cycle. During the match, wicket-keeper Litton Das sustained an injury, and now the Bangla Tigers have provided an update on the majority of the injury.

The Bangla Tigers have been in brilliant form in the traditional format of the game. They recently defeated Australia in Australia and drew the Test series 1-1, which came as a historic moment for Najmul Hossain Shanto and his team. They have been ranked higher than India at the fourth position in the table and would look to dominate and win this series against Windies.

Litton Das out of first Test match?

During day 2 of the Test match, the Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam provided an update on Litton Das’ elbow injury. He said that the keeper-batter has a contusion to his right elbow and has been under observation, with Jaker Ali having taken the responsibility of the gloves and taken the field as the substitute wicket-keeper.

National team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam said: “Litton has sustained a contusion to his right elbow after being struck while batting in Bangladesh’s first innings. He is being observed. Jaker Ali Anik is the substitute wicketkeeper.” Litton is a key player for the side in the middle order, and they would not risk him if he is not 100% fit to play the game.

Litton Das' recent Test form

Litton Das previously was doubtful for the Test match as he continued to recover from a hip injury that ruled him out of the recently concluded tri-nation ODI series involving Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. However, it was a big boost for the side that they got the services of the veteran batter in the opening Test match, but unfortunately he took a nasty blow.

From 2025 till now, Litton Das has had a brilliant time in the traditional format of the game as he played 10 matches and 14 innings, scoring 757 runs at an average of 50.47 and a strike rate of 65.73. The tally included three centuries and four half-centuries, with a highest score of 128. This showcases his form, and in this match he was unbeaten on 34 runs.

Bangladesh in control of the 1st Test

Coming to the match, the Bangladesh captain won the toss and elected to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Opener Shadman Islam scored a brilliant 105 runs despite losing his partner Tanzid Hasan early on in the innings. The Bangla Tigers did not post a big score as they were bowled out for 272-10. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up a fifer.

West Indies are now in a decent position with four wickets down, and the score is 134 runs; they are still trailing by 138 runs, Tagenarine Chanderpaul is set at the crease with Justin Greaves as they will look to build a partnership and get a lead for the side.
