Former Alabama All-American reportedly lands huge contract extension

Former Alabama All-America basketball player and No. 2 overall NBA draft pick Brandon Miller has reportedly signed a large rookie-scale extension with the Charlotte Hornets, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania. Miller has reportedly landed a five-year, $209 million deal after a strong first three seasons with the Hornets. The contract appears to be the largest ever for a former Alabama basketball player.

Miller is going into the final year of his rookie deal where he will make $15.1 million this season, and then the extension will kick in heading into the 2027-28 NBA season. So in total, he is under contract for six more seasons and is set to earn roughly $224 million in that time.

Miller helped lead the Hornets on a resurgent season last year in which they went 44-38 before falling in the NBA play-in tournament. Those 44 wins were the Hornets' most since 2016.

Miller led the Hornets in scoring last season, averaging 20.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the field and 38.3% from three. Miller was even more efficient down the stretch as he shot 45.1% from the field and 40.6% from three following the all-star break as the Hornets were one of the hottest teams in the league late in the season. Charlotte went 18-7 over the final 25 games of the year.

Miller spent one season at Alabama where he received All-America honors while leading the Crimson Tide to a SEC tournament title and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2023. Miller averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for Alabama, which led to him being the second overall selection in the 2023 NBA draft.
