Walter Clayton Jr. Signs Two-Way Contract With Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks signed guard Walter Clayton Jr. to a two-way contract. The Memphis Grizzlies waived Clayton on Monday at the roster cutdown deadline.

Clayton, 23, averaged 7.8 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 69 games, including six starts, as a rookie with the Utah Jazz and Grizzlies. He scored a career-high 20 points twice. One of those games was a 20-point, nine-assist performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 7.

Memphis acquired Clayton from Utah on Feb. 3 in an eight-player trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Jazz. Clayton averaged 9.7 points and 5.7 assists in 24 games with the Grizzlies.

Clayton was the 18th pick in the 2025 draft after leading Florida to the 2025 national championship. As a senior, he averaged 18.3 points and 4.2 assists. He was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player and a consensus first-team All-American.
