Texas A&M's 2025 season was historic by most standards, as then second-year head coach Mike Elko led his team to an 11-0 record and the program's first trip to the College Football Playoff. However, back-to-back first-round losses to Texas and Miami in the CFP exposed the Aggies' weaknesses, including a kicking game they couldn't trust.
On paper, the Aggies had a better running game and a reliable kicker, but they didn't legitimately compete for a national championship last fall; now, with redshirt junior QB Marcel Reed's regression and the offensive line failing to find consistency, the offense has taken a notable step back through the first seven games of the 2026 season.
However, senior punter Tyler White and transfer kicker David Olano have played at an All-American level, especially Olano, who has not missed a field goal attempt this season and is the only FBS kicker to make all four of his 50-plus-yard attempts, including a career-high 57-yard field goal against Arkansas.
Texas A&M's long history of developing NFL punters and kickers is too extensive to list, but top names include punter Shane Lechler and long-time starting kicker Randy Bullock. David Olano has already made a name for himself in College Station and was included in On3's 2026 Midseason All-America Team on Tuesday.
One of the few bright spots amid an ugly season for the Aggies, the hope is that Texas A&M's offense and defense play sound football the rest of the year and give David Olano a chance to attempt a game-winning field goal, especially against the Texas Longhorns at the end of the regular season.
