PSG gives update on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's surgery

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has successfully undergone surgery following a serious knee injury that could keep him out of action for several months.

The French champions announced on Tuesday, October 27, that the Georgian winger underwent a successful operation to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The surgery was performed at Aspetar Hospital in Doha, Qatar, with the player now set to begin his rehabilitation programme.

What happened to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?

Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury during PSG’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on October 20. The 25-year-old was forced off shortly before the hour mark after hurting his knee, raising immediate concerns about the severity of the problem.

How long will Khvicha Kvaratskhelia be out for?

The medical examinations subsequently confirmed the ACL rupture, forcing the club to prepare for an extended period without one of its most important attacking players. Although PSG have not announced an official return date, injuries of this nature typically require at least six months of recovery, meaning the winger could miss the remainder of the 2026/27 season.

Kvaratskhelia’s absence represents a significant setback for Luis Enrique’s side, given his creativity, dribbling ability and attacking contributions. The Georgian international has established himself as a key figure in the team since arriving from Napoli, helping PSG maintain their competitiveness in domestic and European competitions.

The injury also comes at an unfortunate time for the winger, who finished sixth in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings. His performances had earned him recognition among the leading players in world football.

PSG will now have to manage his absence while relying on other attacking options to maintain their momentum across competitions. The club will be hoping that Kvaratskhelia makes steady progress during rehabilitation and eventually returns to full fitness.
