FIFA has approved a normalisation committee to take over the Nigeria Football Federation and run its affairs until fresh elections are held, with a deadline of 31 May 2027.
The decision was confirmed in a letter from the Bureau of the FIFA Council, signed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom. FIFA and CAF will jointly select members of the committee, who will not be allowed to contest in the next NFF elections.
The committee will stabilise the federation and prepare for credible polls, while the NFF secretariat continues daily operations until the committee is inaugurated.
This follows the mass resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other executives after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the Super Falcons missed the 2027 Women World Cup.
