Barcelona Extends Perfect Run to Nine Matches

Entering the ninth week of the Spanish top flight on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Barcelona carried significant momentum into Andalusia. As reported by HARIAN DISWAY, the Catalan side arrived in Seville following a 4-1 victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League, which had stretched their streak across all competitions to 10 matches. At La Cartuja, Hansi Flick’s squad faced a high-stakes fixture that tested their defensive resilience against a home side sitting near the upper tier of the standings.

The visiting attack proved too potent for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. According to match reports compiled by Website Resmi Polri, Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia, and Dani Olmo all found the back of the net to overwhelm the hosts. Real Betis managed to equalize briefly during a competitive first half and exerted sustained pressure, but the visitors reclaimed control of the tempo after the break.

Standings Shift as Real Madrid Climbs Past Betis

ANTARA News noted that the weekend’s results also reshaped the chasing pack. Real Madrid moved past Real Betis into third place by defeating Sevilla 4-1, bringing Los Blancos to 21 points.

Real Betis dropped to fourth position with 19 points following their second league defeat of the 2026/2027 season. Despite the loss, Manuel Pellegrini’s team remains inside the European qualification places, one point ahead of fifth-place Real Sociedad, who routed Malaga 5-2.

Disciplinary Sanctions Follow Heated Fixture

The aftermath of the encounter brought off-field disciplinary action from football authorities. Goal.com reported that the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee handed Real Betis player Facundo Bernal a four-match suspension following a confrontation with Lamine Yamal during the match. The committee rejected an appeal from the Andalusian club regarding the straight red card issued after the incident.

The sanctions extended to club management as well. Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo received a two-match suspension for sporting misconduct, while manager Manuel Pellegrini was issued a warning regarding post-match comments concerning the officiating. Real Betis officials indicated an intention to pursue a further appeal through the appeals committee, citing the player’s subsequent social media apology.
