The Arizona Diamondbacks television broadcasts will have a full-circle feeling beginning in 2027 as the team leans into deep family ties and a familiar last name in the booth with the naming of Chris Garagiola as the new play-by-play voice for the team’s television broadcasts on DBACKS.TV.
“Chris has established himself as an exceptional storyteller over the last five seasons and earned the opportunity to be the centerpiece as we evolve our television broadcasts,” said Derrick Hall/D-backs President, CEO & General Partner. “A third-generation D-back who grew up with this team, we are ecstatic he is carrying on his family legacy in these hallways and in the booth, right where he belongs.”
The native Phoenician grew up an original D-backs fan as his father, Joe Garagiola Jr., was instrumental in bringing baseball to the Valley and, as the team’s original General Manager from 1995-2005, was the architect of the inaugural team in 1998 and the 2001 World Series Championship club.
Chris will follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, Hall of Famer Joe Garagiola Sr., whose 58-year career culminated with 15 seasons with the D-backs (1998-2012), and will now call the action from the “Joe Garagiola Broadcast Booth.”

”It is the honor of my lifetime to step into the television booth in my hometown for the team I grew up rooting for. I am eternally grateful to Ken, Derrick, and the Diamondbacks organization for this opportunity,” said Chris Garagiola. “Thank you to each of the talented co-hosts, who share the joy of calling Diamondbacks baseball with me, and to the talented production team, who works tirelessly behind the scenes to make our broadcasts a success. Most importantly, thank you to Diamondbacks fans for your unwavering support of the team and for making what we get to do possible.”
Garagiola spent the last 3 seasons (2024-26) as the radio play-by-play announcer on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and the Arizona Diamondbacks Radio Network while also serving as the television back-up play-by-play announcer.
Garagiola returned home and joined his hometown team in December 2021 as the pre- and post-game show host and secondary play-by-play announcer for the team’s radio broadcasts for the 2022-23 seasons.
Garagiola’s broadcasting career includes time with the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos as the lead broadcaster and at Trinity University as a sports anchor on the university’s local news show. He is also a founding member of the “Tiger Network,” the university’s first sports broadcasting service.
