Iheanacho Makes Turkish Football History, Shares Reaction
Kelechi Iheanacho

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has taken to social media to celebrate his historic achievement in Turkey, sharing a picture of himself dressed in traditional Turkish attire and embracing the nickname “Agabey”.

The striker posted the picture on Instagram after scoring twice and providing an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muglaspor in the Turkish 1. Lig on Thursday.

His caption read, “We go ball till eternity, Kelechi Agabey.”

The Turkish word “Agabey” is a respectful title that translates to “Big Brother” or “Boss”.

The 30-year-old has now scored in 10 consecutive league matches, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in Turkish professional league football.

Iheanacho has found the net in all 10 league appearances for Bursaspor. Including his goal for the Super Eagles, he has scored in 11 consecutive matches. Since joining the Turkish club from Celtic, the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker has registered 14 goals and three assists.

Iheanacho initially thought he had put Bursaspor ahead in the 51st minute, but his effort was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

He eventually broke the deadlock seven minutes later to give his side the lead before completing his brace in the 79th minute. Four minutes afterwards, he turned provider by setting up substitute Hüseyin Maldar for Bursaspor’s third goal.

The victory moved Bursaspor into second place in the Turkish 1. Lig standings with 22 points, putting them two points ahead of third-placed Iğdır FK and three behind league leaders Kayserispor.

Second place is currently one of the two automatic promotion spots to the Turkish Super Lig.

Bursaspor will return to action on Monday when they host Pendikspor.
