Allen Bailey has sadly passed away at the age of 37. He was best known for his time as a defensive end in the NFL. Bailey's body was reportedly discovered by his wife at their Florida home, per his brother, Alford Bailey Jr., according to TMZ.
Alford also noted that it's believed that Bailey passed away of natural causes. It's unclear whether a medical investigation will take place to confirm that belief.
Bailey entered the NFL as the 86th pick in the 2011 draft, having been selected by the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent eight seasons with the franchise between 2011 and 2018. Following his tenure in Kansas, Bailey spent the final two years of his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons.
In total, Bailey suited up for 133 regular-season football games, starting 70 of them. He recorded 248 combined tackles, with 40 of them coming for a loss. Bailey also recorded a total of 22 sacks throughout his time with Kansas and Atlanta.
Bailey was ultimately released by the Falcons in 2021, marking the end of his time in the professional ranks.
Following the news of Bailey's death, fans and former players alike shared their reactions to the news as it became public.
"Quite sad, 37 is just the peak of life. Rest in peace to him," one fan wrote on X.
Other fans quickly questioned whether Bailey's death was due to natural causes, citing his young age as the biggest question mark.
"Natural causes at age 37?" one fan wrote online.
"Because people seem confused, natural causes is an extremely broad term that means this was due to an internal factor (heart disease, stroke, etc.) vs. a traumatic event like a car accident," another fan chimed in. "This is 90% of deaths. That said, he's young, and it's sad; they'll investigate further."
Others chose to remember their interactions with Bailey.
"Allen Bailey was a classmate of mine and an impossibly good dude. He was obviously a great player—he played 10 years in the league—but he was also a sharp and kind soul. He'll be missed by everyone who knew him," a fan wrote on X.
Currently, there's no information regarding any upcoming funeral or celebration of life for Bailey. Those details will likely remain private for close friends and family.
