Matchday 2 of the Europa League league phase delivered its verdicts this Thursday, October 15, 2026. It was a night of two faces for French football: Marseille suffered a damaging home defeat, while Lyon held firm in a wild game. In Italy, AC Milan bounced back in the best possible way.
The Vélodrome did not get the reaction it hoped for. Olympique de Marseille lost 1-0 to Olympiakos despite 56% possession, 462 successful passes out of 533 (87%), 11 shots (5 on target) and 9 corners against just one for the Greeks.
The Phocéens dominated without finishing, wasting two big chances. Olympiakos were more clinical, converting their only real opportunity to take all three points (9 shots, 4 on target, 44% possession). For OM, beaten 4-1 at Be?ikta? in their opener, it is a fourth straight defeat in European competition.
In Salzburg, AC Milan took care of business (4-0). 19-year-old Alphadjo Cissé scored a hat-trick: one after a quarter of an hour from an Omari Hutchinson pass, a second just before half-time from a Bartesaghi assist, then his third early in the second half from an Adrien Rabiot pass. Gonçalo Ramos, a substitute, sealed the 4-0.
The Rossoneri even finished with ten men after Filippo Terracciano was sent off, without wobbling or conceding. A sharp response to the Matchday 1 defeat against Benfica, a day after Ruben Amorim’s comments on collective strength.
At the Groupama Stadium, OL won 3-2 in a hard-fought game. Tolisso (8th) and Nuamah (45th+2) put the Gones ahead before the break. Crystal Palace pulled one back through Yeremy Pino (50th), but Pavel Šulc, on from the 70th minute, restored the cushion in the 76th from a Keito Nakamura pass. Daichi Kamada’s late goal (81st) was not enough: Lyon make it two wins in a row and a perfect start.
The Cherries beat Sturm Graz 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Wasteful for a long time, they made the difference just before the break: Evanilson opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a lovely looping header from an Adam Smith cross. In the second half Sturm Graz hit the post, but Rayan, on from the 70th, made it 2-0 in the 76th after a goalkeeping error. Álvaro Rodriguez converted a penalty in the 90th+2 for a Stankovic handball.
Bournemouth keep a perfect record after beating Real Sociedad. Sturm Graz suffer their first European defeat of the season. On the African side, Amine Adli (Bournemouth) and Oumar Diakité (Sturm Graz) were on the bench at kick-off.
In Sinsheim, Be?ikta? won 3-2 after a goalless first half. Michael Murillo opened the scoring in the 59th, Fisnik Asllani equalised in the 67th, then Oh Hyeon-gyu scored twice (72nd, 78th). Koki Machida pulled one back in the 87th, too late. The Turks put 5 of 11 shots on target against 3 of 10 for the Germans, who committed 15 fouls to 8. After beating OM, Be?ikta? have two wins from two.
Dinamo beat Anderlecht 1-0 through a Beljo penalty converted in the 90th+6. A closed game with little inspiration until the Belgians fouled in the box. A first win of the campaign for the Croats, a second defeat for Anderlecht, still without a point.
Against Real Sociedad, the Belgians finally equalised (1-1) after dominating (15 shots, 5 on target, against 5 and 1). Beñat Turrientes, a half-time substitute, opened the scoring in the 46th minute. Sekou Keita, on in the 83rd, equalised in the 88th after a VAR check. The Union have four points, and Real Sociedad open their account.
