Luis Diaz injury rules Bayern Munich winger out for foreseeable future

Bayern Munich forward Luis Diaz will be unavailable for the “foreseeable future” after suffering a minor muscle tear in his left hamstring during Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal.

The Bundesliga club confirmed the injury on Thursday after medical examinations by its staff.

Diaz, 29, entered the match at the Allianz Arena in the 68th minute but was forced to leave the field in stoppage time after sustaining the injury.

“The 29-year-old forward will therefore be sidelined for the time being,” Bayern said in a statement.

The setback comes as Bayern prepare for a demanding period of the season. Diaz has been an important attacking option for the German champions since joining the club.

Bayern and Arsenal shared four goals in their league-phase meeting, with Declan Rice scoring a late equaliser for the visitors to secure a point.

Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga, travel to third-placed Freiburg on Sunday. Freiburg are one point behind the champions after six games.
