Caitlin Clark’s offseason has blurred the line between fan and peer. Since the Indiana Fever’s 2-1 playoff exit against A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, the WNBA star has remained a familiar face around Indianapolis, continuing to show up for the city’s sporting events. Her latest appearance came at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where she watched the Pacers take on the Philadelphia 76ers. The visitors rallied with a stunning 39-21 fourth-quarter run to secure a 114-109 comeback win over a depleted Indiana roster. But the result wasn’t the only talking point from the night. Clark made her way through the tunnels after the game, heading toward the visitors’ locker room for a postgame interaction with a familiar NBA face.

Patrick McCaffery, brother of Clark’s boyfriend Connor, was pleased to see this interaction.
“oh yeah” was the caption of Patrick McCaffery’s Instagram story, which featured a pic of Clark’s interaction with LeBron James.
The pic of the meet-and-greet between Clark and James was shared by the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Just a couple of hoopers. 🤝,” wrote the 76ers in an Instagram post.
The two basketball icons have developed a supportive friendship over the past couple of years, consistently supporting each other’s respective careers.
“I’m rooting for Caitlin because I’ve been in that seat before,” James said back in 2024. “I’ve walked that road before. I hope she kills. I hope Aliyah Boston does amazing. I hope they do great.”
Like James, Clark was also selected first overall in her draft in 2024. Their latest postgame interaction builds on a previous face-to-face meeting during the Los Angeles Lakers’ March 2025 visit to Indianapolis. Just like Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, Clark actually made her own very public pitch to get LeBron to sign with Indiana.
And James was not the only Philadelphia player that Clark interacted with that evening. She briefly interacted with two-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey, who led Philadelphia with 27 points on Wednesday.
Maxey expressed his thoughts afterward, pleased by the interaction.
“I think that was my first time really meeting her,” Maxey said. “Honestly, that’s just another person that I like to watch. She cold, she nice. Seeing her today was really cool. Sometimes you try not to fan out, but it was really cool seeing her. It’s her building; she plays here too. … So it’s good seeing her. She’s nice.”
For Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, perhaps the most critical stretch of the year is just beginning, with looming unrestricted free agency of key players like Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham. This casts a shadow of uncertainty over the roster’s future.
The onus is now on the new front office to fend off rival suitors and keep the squad intact, especially after Clark’s remarkable season. The 24-year-old rewrote the record books and cemented her third straight All-Star appearance, averaging a career-high 22.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds.
In the wake of a significant front-office restructuring, the Indiana Fever have hired Excel Search & Advisory to help navigate their ongoing executive search and recruitment efforts, the same agency that represents Caitlin Clark.
Clark has already indicated that she wants to help shape the Indiana Fever’s roster. During her end-of-season interview, she stated that both she and teammate Aliyah Boston plan to take an active role in recruiting players this offseason.
“That’s the responsibility of me and AB at this point as the leaders of this team,” Clark said.
“Then, obviously, if we get Kelsey back, she could be helping us as well. Us and Amber always have an open dialogue about players. At the end of the day, Amber is the GM, and she makes the final call, but she certainly asks us our opinion and wants us to have a voice in that.”
With Amber Cox no longer in her role, it remains to be seen how much say Clark and her teammates will have in front-office hiring.
For now, fans will turn their attention to the first-ever Game 7 of the WNBA Finals, as the league awaits its new champion.
