This is David Moyes’ best Everton XI and he shouldn’t be afraid to play it

Tyler Dibling has impressed in cameos this term, but the Toffees boss still seems so reluctant to use him, as he was an unused substitute yesterday.

With that said, after assessing the opening seven games of the Premier League season, here is the starting line-up Moyes should now go for.

David Moyes must move away from the old guard and start this Everton XI

Jordan Pickford is no doubt one of Everton’s best players, even if his level has dropped a little in recent weeks, so he assumes his usual spot in goal.

I think Ainsley Maitland-Niles has done really well since arriving from Lyon, but Merlin Rohl’s physical attributes are so impressive, and that’s why I’ve picked him as the right-back.

James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite are a great partnership, and Vitalii Mykolenko has improved a lot this term.

Moving into midfield, Harrison Armstrong has cemented his spot in the starting line-up and is undroppable considering how much ground he covers. There is no other Toffees player in the squad with the same traits as Armstrong.

James Garner starts next to the 19-year-old, and just ahead as an attacking midfielder is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Hayden Hackney is unlucky to miss out, but it’s hard to justify him replacing any of the aforementioned three.

On the wings is where it gets tricky. Jack Grealish has looked off the pace this season, and it’s getting to a point where I think he should be dropped for Tyrique George, who’s been a livewire off both flanks.

George is much more effective off the left in my view, so I’d bring him in for Grealish and then start Dibling on the opposite flank.

Dibling deserves his opportunity and should be ahead of Brennan Johnson in the pecking order, as the Wales international has been pretty average since joining from Crystal Palace.

Up front is of course Thierno Barry and that’s not going to change until the January transfer window, when Moyes is expected to sign another centre-forward.

So, this is the best Everton XI available to Moyes, and he shouldn’t be afraid to pick it, especially at the Hill Dickinson Stadium when they want to be on the front foot.

Everton’s best XI: Pickford; Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Armstrong, Garner; Dibling, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry.
