One of the most talked-about tales of the Spanish summer transfer season was Real Madrid and Barcelona’s chase of Rodri.

The Spanish midfielder appeared to be the ideal choice to enhance Jose Mourinho’s midfield, but despite Madrid’s efforts, he ultimately chose to join Barcelona over Manchester City.

Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has disclosed that he personally tried to encourage Rodri to go to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carvajal admits attempting to convince Rodri

The current Getafe defender spoke with El Larguero on Cadena SER about his involvement in the transfer situation.

“I spoke with him and tried to persuade him.” “I imagine there were others pushing him from the other side,” Carvajal explained.

The former Madrid captain also admitted that Rodri would have had his own motives for picking Barcelona.

When questioned if Madrid could have profited from signing Rodri, Carvajal stated that he was an extraordinary footballer who could help any team.

Rodri commended Real Madrid for their approach throughout the transfer scandal, acknowledging that they made his decision tough.

After missing out on Rodri, Los Blancos decided not to sign another midfielder and instead focused their efforts elsewhere.

Real Madrid made a serious attempt to sign Rodri.

Mourinho also spoke directly with the midfielder during the discussions, later saying that Rodri’s uncertainty caused him to reconsider the transfer.

The Portuguese manager insisted that Madrid required players who were truly committed to joining the club, despite appreciating Rodri’s great talent.

Missing out on the Spaniard was undeniably upsetting. His positional knowledge, possession management, and defensive awareness would have made him an ideal fit for Madrid’s midfield.

However, Sunday’s Clasico triumph underlined that Madrid can play against superior opponents even without him.

Rodri even advised his side before of the game not to underestimate Los Blancos, and his fears proved correct.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Bernardo Silva helped Los Blancos outplay a Barcelona midfield that included Rodri.

While there is little doubt that Rodri would have been advantageous to Madrid, they cannot be concerned about a player selecting another club.

Finally, the essential point is that Jose Mourinho is capable of finding answers, and it remains to be seen how things unfold.
