Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has questioned the quality of three of the club’s attacking players, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, insisting they are not good enough to help the team win major trophies.
New Telegraph recalls that Manchester United signed Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha in the summer of 2025 as part of efforts to strengthen their attacking options.
However, Rooney believes the club would be deluding itself if it expected the trio to lead the team to silverware this season.
“They are deluded if they think the front three [Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha] that they have brought in are good enough; they are not,” Rooney said to Stick To United while dismissing Man United’s chances of competing for trophies this season.
“They are bringing players in from Wolves, from Brentford; the squad is absolutely a million miles away from being champions.”
Manchester United have endured a difficult start to their Premier League campaign, winning just one of their opening eight matches and finding themselves dangerously close to the relegation zone.
The Red Devils will look to improve their fortunes when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with pressure continuing to mount over the team’s performances and prospects for the season.
