FC Barcelona has implemented an alternative protocol for training sessions and travel ahead of its La Liga fixture against Real Betis at La Cartuja. The adjustments follow a demanding travel schedule that included a long-distance flight to Istanbul for a UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray, forcing Hansi Flick and his staff to prioritize muscle recovery over traditional pitch work.
Returning from Turkey on a Wednesday, the squad skipped a full field session, conducting only light work in the gym while still abroad. Thursday’s schedule featured a short session split between physical recovery for starters and higher-intensity drills for substitutes, followed by joint practice matches. Friday’s training was moved to the afternoon to allow the team to fly directly to Seville.
This sequence left the team without a high-load, complete training session ahead of the match in Andalusia. The coaching staff anticipated this disruption as part of a stretch of three consecutive matches without ordinary training margins, making workload management the primary focus for fitness staff.
To mitigate the fatigue of successive flights, Barcelona advanced its departure to Friday afternoon, ensuring the team could stay overnight in Seville and maintain regular rest schedules. The delegation is staying at the Eurostars Torre de Sevilla, where the club secured an exclusive floor to restrict access to hotel guests. A large lounge on this private floor was converted into a makeshift space for Saturday morning’s activation session.

This hotel-based routine replaces traditional outdoor work. Players complete individual and group stretching, preventive strength exercises, and physiotherapy treatments. Lunch is scheduled for approximately 13:00 local time, followed by a rest period and a team bus transfer to the stadium between 16:30 and 16:45 ahead of the 18:30 kickoff.
Barcelona enters the fixture holding 34 goals in La Liga this season, averaging over four goals per match. Under Hansi Flick, who took charge in 2024, the club has faced Real Betis five times across La Liga and the Copa del Rey, scoring 16 goals at an average of 3.2 goals per game.
Flick remains undefeated against Betis across those five official encounters, registering three wins and two draws. The sequence includes a 2–2 draw in December 2024, a 5–1 cup victory in January 2025, a 1–1 draw in April 2025, a 5–3 win in Seville in December 2025, and a 3–1 victory in May 2026. Real Betis has not defeated the club since a 1–0 result at the Spotify Camp Nou in December 2021.
Entering the match with a 12-match unbeaten streak and a perfect record of eight wins in eight La Liga matches, Barcelona must balance player minutes with an upcoming Champions League fixture three days later. Lamine Yamal is the only footballer who has appeared in the starting eleven in all duels that have been played so far, though a high accumulation of minutes could prompt Flick to offer the 19-year-old winger his first rest of the campaign at La Cartuja.
A projected 4–2–3–1 lineup features Joan García in goal; a defensive line of Xavi Espart, Gerard Martín, Pau Cubarsí, and Eric García; Pedri and Marc Bernal in midfield; Karim Adeyemi, Fermín, and Lamine Yamal in attacking midfield; and Gabriel Jesus leading the attack. Real Betis is projected to line up with Álvaro Valles; Fran García, Natan, Marc Bartra, Héctor Bellerín; Pablo Fornals, Marc Roca; Abde, Isco, Antony; and Cucho Hernández.
