Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez faces at least 40 days out with jaw fracture

Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has suffered a fractured jaw and will undergo surgery after being substituted during the Premier League win over Everton.

The Argentina international was injured in a collision during the match, which Chelsea won 2-0 away from home. The nature of the injury means Martinez is expected to be unavailable for a minimum of 40 days.

Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported the expected absence on social media. Martinez, 34, is a world champion and has made six Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, conceding 11 goals.

Chelsea’s victory at Everton leaves them fourth in the Premier League table with 13 points.
