AFCON 2027: CAF appoints seven Malawian officials for Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed seven Malawian match officials to officiate in the November 2026 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifying matches.

Four Malawian referees have been assigned to officiate the match between Eritrea and Guinea on 16 November at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, while two referee assessors have been appointed for matches involving Zambia and Burkina Faso, as well as Kenya and South Africa.

Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga will lead the Malawian officiating team for the Eritrea versus Guinea encounter as centre referee, assisted by Tembo Pondamali and Samuel Fudzulani as first and second assistant referees respectively. Easter Bright Kalikokha Zimba has been appointed as the fourth official for the match, which is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 CAT.

Meanwhile, Michael Laston Makoto has been appointed referee assessor for the AFCON qualifier between Zambia and Burkina Faso at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, on 15 November. Bernadettar Asimenye Kwimbira has also been appointed referee assessor for the encounter between Kenya and South Africa at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on 17 November.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) continues to support the development of match officials as part of its efforts to improve refereeing standards and increase Malawi’s representation in international football competitions.
