Morocco defender Issa Diop says his family has nothing to forgive him for over his decision to represent the Atlas Lions rather than Senegal.

«They didn’t forgive me because they have nothing to forgive me for. It was my decision», he told TWTD in an interview published on October 19. «God wanted this for me, and that was my way.»

Diop said international football had helped him develop by exposing him to new situations. «I think I’ve learned different things, because when you play for your country, it’s different than when you play for your club», he said.

Reflecting on his first World Cup, he added: «We could have done better, but it was still a good experience.»

Asked about the dispute between Morocco and Senegal over the Africa Cup of Nations title, Diop said: «It’s in court, so just waiting for the decision. We’ll see, I think the decision will be good.»

The Ipswich Town defender qualifies for Morocco through his mother and could also have represented Senegal through his father. The 29-year-old has earned 12 caps since choosing Morocco earlier this year, including five appearances at the World Cup.
