Moroccan striker Yassir Zabiri secured a valuable 2–1 home victory for Racing Santander over Espanyol on Saturday, scoring the winner five minutes from time. His performance also earned him the Man of the Match award.
Espanyol took the lead in the second half through Edu Expósito, before Belocian equalized for Racing five minutes later, capitalizing on a rebound outside the penalty area.
In the 85th minute, Zabiri pounced on confusion inside the box following a corner to find the net and secure all three points for his side.
The Moroccan international took his tally to eight goals this season, underlining his attacking contribution to Racing Santander.
The victory ended the Cantabrian side’s poor run of results and gave them some breathing room above the relegation zone ahead of next Sunday’s home match against Real Madrid at El Sardinero—their first meeting at the stadium in 14 years.
Meanwhile, the defeat increased the pressure on Espanyol coach Manuel González as the Catalan side’s struggles continued.
