Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scored as Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, securing an important away win.
Galatasaray made a bright start when Yunus Akgün opened the scoring in the second minute. Lille responded through Soriba Diaoune, who equalised in the seventh minute before striking again in the 39th minute to put the hosts ahead.
The visitors restored parity just before half-time when Aleksey Batrakov headed home in the 44th minute to make it 2-2. Both sides went into the break level after an entertaining first half that saw four goals.
Galatasaray regained the lead in the 52nd minute after Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer turned the ball into his own net. Osimhen then extended the visitors’ advantage nine minutes later, scoring in the 61st minute to make it 4-2.
The victory gave Galatasaray a boost in their Champions League campaign as they sought to improve their position in the league phase. Osimhen’s goal helped the Turkish champions establish a two-goal cushion over the French side.
Galatasaray will look to build on the result in their remaining European fixtures as they pursue qualification for the knockout stages. Lille, meanwhile, will seek to recover from the defeat in their next outing.
