UCAM Murcia head coach Sito Alonso addressed the media ahead of his team’s upcoming domestic league fixture against Valencia Basket, looking to guide the university side back to winning ways in the ACB. UCAM Deportes reported that Alonso weighed in on squad fitness, recent opposition form, and the tactical identity of their upcoming opponent during his pre-match press conference.

Squad Adaptation and Juani Marcos Injury Status

Addressing the current state of his roster, Alonso discussed the ongoing recovery of guard Juani Marcos. The UCAM Murcia coach acknowledged that the player’s absence represents a small setback regarding his adaptation and understanding of the team’s tactical philosophy. Alonso noted that while he never forgets a player who is sidelined, his immediate focus must remain entirely on the athletes currently available for selection. He expressed optimism about the guard’s long-term integration, stating that upon his return, Marcos will be much more aligned with the established team concepts.

Evaluating Valencia Basket and Recent Form

Turning his attention to the opposition, Alonso acknowledged that Valencia Basket enters the matchup following three consecutive defeats over the past week. Despite their rival’s recent stumble in domestic play, Alonso emphasized that his primary objective is ensuring UCAM Murcia maintains the competitive level displayed throughout the start of the season. He described Valencia Basket as an ambitious project and stated he sees no external pressure regarding any mandatory expectation for them to beat UCAM Murcia. Furthermore, Alonso observed that Valencia Basket is currently playing an even more dynamic brand of basketball than they did during the previous campaign.

Michael Forrest’s Scoring Impact and Defensive Intensity

The Murcia coach also evaluated the recent performances of guard Michael Forrest. Alonso highlighted that the Jamaican player profiles more as a scorer than a traditional floor general, noting that his contributions must be measured by his capacity to generate offensive danger. Alongside his scoring abilities, Alonso praised Forrest’s defensive output during the recent victory in Bamberg, specifically highlighting the sustained intensity the guard brought from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
