U15 World Cup: Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire maintain flawless records as Cameroon lose to India

Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire continued their winning starts at the U15 World Cup in Azerbaijan, while Senegal recovered from their opening defeat with a seven-goal victory. Cameroon, by contrast, suffered a setback after losing 2-1 to India on the second day of competition at the Hovsan sports complex in Baku.

Algeria followed their 1-0 victory over Argentina by defeating Suriname 5-0. Abdelkarim Meharzi scored twice, including a penalty, in the ninth and 18th minutes. Mohamed Laieb added another in the 14th minute before Youcef Anteur and Ayoub Zoubidi completed the scoring in the 23rd and 40th minutes.

The result leaves the young Fennecs with two wins, five goals scored against Suriname and Argentina, and no goals conceded.

Cote d’Ivoire were equally convincing, beating the Turks and Caicos Islands 6-0 after their 5-0 victory over Rwanda on Saturday. Cheick Berte struck twice in the opening six minutes, while Dramane Diarrassouba completed a hat-trick with goals in the 25th, 28th and 33rd minutes. Jadon Montilus also scored an own goal in the 31st minute.

Cote d’Ivoire have now scored 11 goals in two matches without conceding.

Senegal responded emphatically to their 3-0 defeat by Cameroon in their opening game, overwhelming Grenada 7-1. Abdoulaye Diallo scored three times in the fifth, 13th and 24th minutes, while Georges Kanfom and Khadre Diop also found the net. Two own goals from Amahn Youssi completed Senegal’s tally.

Cameroon were unable to build on their victory over Senegal. Ndam Moctar gave the young Lions the lead in the 20th minute against India, but an own goal by Fareil Ngobo and a strike from Lalremruatfela turned the match in India’s favour.

Guinea produced one of the tournament’s biggest victories, defeating American Samoa 17-0 after beating Canada 2-1 on Saturday. Seydouba Camara scored five goals, Nfamady Diabate six and Naby Sylla three.

Mali also made it two wins from two by beating Belarus 2-1. Oumar Wague scored in the 29th minute and Sidy Haidara added the second six minutes later, following Mali’s 7-1 victory over Botswana.

Elsewhere, Benin thrashed the Cook Islands 10-0, Madagascar edged New Zealand 4-3, Ghana beat Myanmar 7-1, Cape Verde defeated Tonga 7-0 and Angola overcame the Solomon Islands 3-1. Niger won 1-0 against Malta, while Gabon suffered a heavy 9-1 defeat by Latvia and Togo lost 5-0 to the Czech Republic.

Several teams, including RD Congo, were still due to play their second match later in the day.
