Where did Oklahoma land in new 1-138 rankings from USA TODAY Sports?

The Oklahoma Sooners improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC with Saturday's 23-15 win on the road over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Now, OU will look to build on that victory and win consecutive games for the first time all season this week.

After Week 8, USA TODAY Sports' Paul Myerberg ranked all 138 FBS teams heading into Week 9. He ranked the Sooners No. 32, a six-spot jump from last week. Myerberg ranked OU the 10th-best team in the SEC after eight weeks of play.

Oklahoma's defense was its usual strong self against MSU, but the offense finally got a little support in Starkville. Led by quarterback John Mateer and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III, OU's offense had its best day of the season so far. The Sooners could have easily scored 30 or even 40 points if they hadn't missed field goals, penalties, drops, and a turnover.

South Carolina is up next on the schedule, and Oklahoma is now trying to position itself for the best possible bowl game at the end of the season. While it's not what anyone inside the Switzer Center wanted or envisioned for this year, it's where OU is at right now. The focus in Norman now is to finish strong and build momentum for 2027 by winning, and the Sooners have a chance to do just that if they play sound football over the final five weeks of the regular season.
