The 2026 CAF Awards, the ceremony at which the African Player of the Year will notably be named, will take place on Monday, December 7, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos, Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Football Federation.

A delegation from the Confederation of African Football traveled to Nigeria to review the facilities planned for several of the body’s upcoming events. Its representatives met on Tuesday with Shehu Dikko, chairman of the National Sports Commission. A second inspection, carried out by fifteen CAF members and led by Christian Emeruwa, head of safety and security, is expected to finalize the remaining organizational details.

The checks also cover Abuja, where CAF’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for November 21 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.

CAF has not yet released the official shortlist for the African Player of the Year award. Achraf Hakimi, Sadio Mané, Victor Osimhen, Ismail Saïbari, Ismaïla Sarr, and Brahim Diaz are among the players who could feature on the list ahead of the Lagos ceremony.
