FIFA has moved to install a Normalisation Committee to oversee the Nigeria Football Federation, with the body set to run the NFF until new elections are held for its Executive Committee.
The decision was approved by the Bureau of the FIFA Council. In correspondence sent to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström stated that the committee will include an appropriate number of members, to be jointly selected by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football as quickly as possible.
Its assignment will end once every required task has been completed, although its term cannot extend beyond 31 May 2027. Those chosen for the Normalisation Committee will not be permitted to stand for any of the posts contested in the forthcoming NFF Executive Committee elections.
Until the new committee is formally put in place, the NFF Secretariat will remain responsible for the federation’s daily operations and for the administration of football across Nigeria.
The NFF measure was among a series of decisions made after the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, on 15 October 2026.
The Bureau also approved the financial allocation framework for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The model will combine tournament prize payments, funding for participating teams’ preparations and the FIFA Club Benefits Programme.
Each competing member association will receive USD 2.5 million in preparation funding, matching the amount provided for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Players at the 2027 women’s tournament will be given service standards equal to those available to their male counterparts at the 2026 finals. Any remaining funds will go to the participating member associations, while a designated portion will be reserved specifically for players. Further details are due to be considered by the FIFA Council at its December 2026 meeting.
The United States has been selected to stage the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from 5 to 30 January 2028. FIFA pointed to the country’s established record of hosting its competitions, its advanced facilities and services, and the strong interest in women’s football among stakeholders in the United States.
Clubs will qualify through their performances in their confederation’s leading club competition during the four-season cycle covering campaigns ending between 2024 and 2027.
FIFA has also rescheduled the concluding stage of the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, which will now be held in Miami from 26 to 31 January 2027. The two semi-finals will be staged on different days in an effort to give the event greater exposure.
Qatar will stage the last three fixtures of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026. The FIFA Derby of the Americas will be played on Wednesday, 9 December 2026, before the FIFA Challenger Cup follows on Saturday, 12 December. The competition final is set for Wednesday, 16 December.
In addition, dates have been confirmed for the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, with the tournament running from 17 September until 9 October.
