LONE’ER KAVANAGH returned to the win column in emphatic fashion at UFC 333.
The GB Top Team standout locked horns with Uzbek KO machine Ramzan Terimov in the feature bout of Saturday night’s Abu Dhabi card.
The Londoner entered the bout on the back of a bloody submission defeat to Brandon Royval at UFC 329 in July.
But he’s back in the hunt for the flyweight title following a sensational first-round TKO victory at the Etihad Arena.
Kavanagh immediately put Terimov on the back foot and chipped away at him with low kicks.
Both men were wary of committing to combinations early doors, but they showcased insane speed when they fired out their respective jabs.
Kavanagh landed a nice left hook after feinting a takedown midway through the round.
Terimov returned the favour a few moments later by chin-checking the Brit with a stinging right hand.
Terimov grew in confidence after landing that shot and upped the pressure.
But Kavanagh did a beautiful job of circling out of range when the Uzbek aggressively closed the distance.
And he used Terimov’s aggression against him with a beautiful counter left uppercut that wobbled ‘Temurlan’.
Kavanagh swarmed his wounded foe, whom he eventually put to the canvas.
And the 27-year-old dropped some academic strikes on the fallen Terimov before referee Mike Beltran waved off the contest.
Kavanagh made it known in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier that his sights are set on the title.
But he’ll have to wait a while as champion Joshua Van will defend the 125lbs throne against Manel Kape at UFC 336 on January 30.
