BYU student dressed like Spider-Man earns life-changing wealth by nailing $3 million Pat McAfee kick

A BYU student dressed up as Spider-Man made life-changing money by nailing a field goal during Pat McAfee’s “Kicking is Easy” contest.

The student, Carter, missed his first attempt, and then, on his second chance worth $3 million, made it look effortless as the ball went between the uprights.

“College Gameday” hit Provo, Utah, on Saturday, hosting the ESPN show on BYU’s campus ahead of the eighth-ranked Cougars’ matchup against No. 2 Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The contest, held weekly on the show, typically awards $1 million — which includes $500,000 from McAfee and a $500,000 match from Home Depot.

In Week 7, notable alumni from both programs upped the ante.

Jazz owner Ryan Smith, a BYU alum, agreed to add another $1 million. His business partner, Notre Dame grad Ryan Sweeney, matched it with his own $1 million.

That brought the total to $3 million, twice the contest’s previous record.

McAfee told Carter the first kick had good pop but spiraled and nearly hit someone on the sideline. He then offered one more shot for the same amount. McAfee jokingly said he doesn’t know what the Book of Mormon says about second chances, to which former BYU receiver Austin Collie replied, “A lot.”

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit then offered Carter some advice. He told him to slow down because he looked rushed and to aim at the left upright. Carter admitted he was nervous.

Carter’s second kick was a knuckleball, splitting the uprights.

The broadcast erupted, and Carter looked stunned.

BYU fans then knocked down barricades, rushed toward him, and lifted him in celebration.
